On April 27, 2004, we took over the ISM responsibility for MV Island Frontier, marking the beginning of what has now become twenty years of development, innovation, ups and downs, unity, cooperation, joy, and pride for all the employees who have been part of Island Offshore during these years. We have much to be grateful for!
The CSOV vessel Island Diligence just completed an impressive winter campaign with busy days on Vattenfall’s Kriegers Flak windfarm in the Baltic Sea, supporting Global Offshore’s cable installation works at the 72-turbine site. Operations were ongoing day and night, involving gangway operations and crane work around the clock. Since the contract commenced in August 2020, we have had 8822 crossings on the Uptime-gangway and 1800 connections to the windmill TP.
Yet a milestone is reached at the Johan Castberg development in the Barents Sea. An anchor system of enormous dimensions is currently being deployed at the oilfield, and Island Victory is chartered for the job. This is one of the most comprehensive anchoring projects globally in 2020; preparing for the arrival of a floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) which will be processing and storing oil from the 30 wells on the seabed when the production starts in 2022.
Island Victory is currently working for Ocean Installer in the Barents Sea installing two subsea frames called Module L at the Askeladd field. This is so far the heaviest lift ever performed by an Island Offshore vessel, with a load of 175.2 tonnes (!) in the crane hook.
Island Offshore’s first step into the Walk to Work (W2W) segment was taken in 2013 with the delivery of Island Crown. Since then Island Offshore’s footprint within this type of services has kept on growing. We now have a fleet of four Walk to Work vessels.
The environmental requirements for emissions and discharge have become harsher in the past few years and we expect them to become even stricter in the future. An example is the oil company Equinor tendering for vessels operating on battery. Our Managing Director Tommy Walaunet shares his thoughts about this.
Island Crown has performed over 6000 gangway connections with more than 40.000 personnel transfers since its delivery in 2013.
A battery hybrid system was installed on board Island Clipper this spring, as the first in the Island Offshore fleet. Commencing a three year contract with Equinor in April as combined supply and walk-to-work vessel, clear requirements on energy efficiency and emissions from the oil company needed to be fulfilled when entering the contract. As a result a shore power connection was also installed.
